James 3:17

Mar 23, 2026

"But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy."

James 3:17 (NASB)

How is it possible to experience purity (no resentment, impatience, or selfishness) in our heart throughout our day? How is this possible when we face difficult bosses, inconsiderate neighbors, rude drivers, and our flesh's continual temptations? It is only possible by looking to God alone to overcome our selfishness! Note that James 3:17 says that this purity comes from above. It is not something we can generate or achieve in our own effort. King David recognized this reality in Psalm 51:10, "Create in me a clean heart, O God [he recognized that only God could do this], and renew a steadfast spirit within me."
